GitHub identifies the automation-capable minority. Network engineers working with Netmiko, NAPALM, Nornir, or Ansible network modules have moved from configuring devices by hand to managing them as code — a small population, and the direction the whole discipline is heading.
Cloud migrations and data centre closures are the reliable availability event. They displace experienced infrastructure staff who often possess deeper fundamentals than cloud-native engineers, and who are actively looking precisely because their employer decided the skills were legacy. That judgement is usually wrong, which is what makes this pool valuable.
